  • BOSLER COYOTE HUNTER

Gil Smith seemed to know just about all there was to know about machinery, mechanics, the land, animals, real estate and human nature. If ever there was a Renaissance man, he was it. He kept bees and sold the honey and the comb. He plowed the road for the Wyoming Highway Department during the winter blizzards. He hunted coyotes and foxes for the neighbors to protect their sheep herds. Then he tanned the hides in his barn and sold them to people like me. He got around on a snowmobile in the winter and in the summer he used his motorcycle. I almost bought a piece of land from him, but it was in the middle of nowhere and I got cold feet, literally. He had some of the best honey in all of Wyoming. He was an incredible guide for me and became a good friend.

  • NO WOOD RANCH COOK

"Be in the dining room at 6:00am. We'll feed you and then we gotta go feed the cattle." This was from the foreman, telling me what to expect.
This was all a bit early for me, so I decided to hang out with the cook. I could see the cowboys for lunch. The cook's job was to feed 15 hungry ranch hands meat, eggs, biscuits, bread or potatoes, coffee, lemonade and of course a dessert; three times per day, every single day come rain or snow. She loved her job. She loved the ranch and she loved making hard-working hungry people happy.
And being a good cook, she loved being appreciated.

  • OIL FIELD TRASH
    AND PROUD OF IT

During a boom and bust period in the Wyoming Oil Fields, this tidy couple just got married, moved into a trailer, adored one another and had the oil field trash slogan on a bumper sticker on their car. Seemed like all the oil field workers had bumper stickers like this.
They should be proud. They were making more money than any other blue collar worker in the State.
